Hi Romy,I am building a modularizable version of the Melquiades (i.e. it is full range, but one can add more channels to it) and therefore wish to have the power supply in a separate enclosure. This raises two questions:1. From what you say, points M...
Many thanks, Pete, my email is my username at boltblue.comRomy, about the centering: if one casts the horns - as i propose to do, the accuracy will be close to that of the mould, which can be directly measured before the stuff is poured in. What kind...
Very many thanks, Pete: I shall drop them a line. I don't suppose you have a reference number or something by which they could identify the job? If they have got a CAD file on it already there would be no need for them to do any more measurements.......
Many thanks to Romy and others for the suggestions. I_should_coco, would you mind sharing the name of the company that made your adapters for the benefit of those of us in the UK? I suppose they may still have your designs, which would make it easier...

I am constructing a set of 400 Hz resin-bonded sand horns and have been thinking about the best way of coupling the S2 to them. I can't find anything off the shelf that is 2.620 x 16 tpi, and none of the people with lathes I know have imperial kit to...

You mean something like this ?....http://www.freepatentsonline.com/6025754.html...
...There is also no infrastructure among the park of ready to use speakers that would be accommodated to use with DSETs...
The Cat
Yes, this is what I was trying to get at: what someone talented like Lamm might do ...
I imagine the resistance to the DSET concept does not come from idiocy - Lamm may well be steeped in vanity and avarice, but he is certainly no idiot - but from resistance to combining amplification and loudspeaker in a single, coherent, monolithic s...

Why not use hardware raid? The system will only see one drive and if you use something like RAID 6 it will add fault tolerance. Areca adapters are particularly good, and they are not all that expensive....
Yes, this is an experiment, but it may as well look good for all that. ...
Thanks, Romy. I suppose I also ought to check the size of the metre, unless you happen to recall the source of the one you used...Incidentally, it is possible to go all teflon & gold (including the 7-pin miniatures) from here:http://www2.117.ne.j...

Very many thanks. I do not want to make him change too many things given that he has generously agreed to keep the price fixed. May I ask what sockets you used - I could then obtain the same ones? Do not worry if you cannot remember. Regards, d...
Very many thanks, Romy. Fool-accommodated sounds good to me. I have seen the pictures documenting the process and they are very helpful indeed. John does indeed have the original drawings, but will not produce another copy until he has confirmation f...
Thanks, Romy, that is very helpful. I'll get in touch with John and see what he has on file. Given that this will be the first amp i have built myself treading on familiar ground is probably worth the cost of a bit too much extra room. Regards, d...
Romy, I am getting the components together for the full range version, and I was wondering if you would be kind enough to consider making available the drawings and the manufacturer for the enclosure. I rather like your design, and it would nat...
Romy, do you think there is enough of a chance Fane's new studio 5 incher (http://www.fane-acoustics.com/pdfs/Studio_5M.pdf) could be driven down far enough to be worth trying out for an upper midbass horn (120Hz)? ...
Well, I am certainly planning to build it, and others may be impelled in the same direction if were kind enough to walk us through the whole ceremony....
Romy, can we persuade you to outline the next steps as promised in your first post....? Since you recommend the full range amp as a starting point for all it would be very useful to have your guidance on it even if you have moved on since then....
Annoying, is it not, that it is precisely at the low frequencies that synchrony matters most. ...
Further to this question, can anyone explain the near-total absence of serious commentary on Lavardin's SS efforts (http://www.lavardin.com/)? Whatever might be said about them, they are at least trying something different, and it does not look...
The company address is the same as that for Precision Devices....http://www.precision-devices.com/...whose 10 incher (http://www.precision-devices.com/showdetails.asp?id=71) may have to do for those of us trying to build a upper bass horn without a S...
I have to admit thigh that I have had in my room the First Watt amp….
Do you mean the F3? How did it sound with the Macondo?Incidentally, I gather a higher power version of the F3 is in the works, and the existing d...
I know there is enough history to put one off trying, but what about something like this recent effort of Nelson Pass's....http://www.firstwatt.com/downloads/f3_om.pdfIt is minimalist, class A, has a fuckoff flat frequency response, and what little d...

Yes: the parameter space seems too great to be explored at the manufacturing stage (even if one could save on labour by doing stuff abroad) unless one had limitless funds, but the RDSET you suggest should not add that much overhead, especially given ...
Thank you, Romy. I suppose to the notion of generic optimization is an oxymoron: like talking about an off-the-peg bespoke suit. It is either Savile Row or it isn't.What would be desirable, however, is not to have to do it all oneself: where do...
Romy, can you be persuaded to post a sketch of what you think the optimal 2 channel Melquiades circuit would look like?
I'd certainly like to make one, once I have finished constructing a suitable set of speakers, but - more to the point - it w...

Idiocy aside - and there is enough money in audio to guarantee not all of the pople in it can be idiots - why is it that no-one seems to have come up with a commercial dual channel SET solution: one channel for HF and MF and another for LF? While not...

Stereo Lab, to whom Romy drew attention at the beginning of this thread, offer their products on Ebay at what seem to be reasonable prices. See here (http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Stereo-Lab)Looks like the small horns are made of artificial stone, whereas...

One thing is certain: without standards there can be no progress (or at least no progress that can be differentiated from mere change), which presumably explains the state of audio.
Why not build a suitably monumental looking horn, and advertise a...
Many thanks for your comments, Romy. What I had in mind was not a full range horn but the first horn of a future 4-way system, as a (crude) testbed for the rather idiosyncratic method of building horns I am suggesting, and for trying out your amplifi...
